Search-and-rescue robot tackles a stepped obstacle course
A tracked robot used its cameras and lights to pick its way across a field of uneven wooden blocks.
The footage shows a small tracked search-and-rescue robot making its way along a narrow course of wooden blocks set at different heights, using its headlights and on-board cameras to negotiate each obstacle.
The course is designed to mimic the uneven ground found under rubble. At several points the robot keeps its balance, backs off and tries again from a new angle.
Competitions like this help develop robots that can be sent into disaster zones where it is too dangerous for people to go.
